Songs for a New World was recorded for on-demand streaming the week of November 9th, 2020 as an alternative to a traditional performance for a live audience.
The unusual form of distribution, mask-wearing singers, and other safety precautions taken by the School of Theatre & Dance presented a number of challenges. We decided to move the FOH position to the booth in the theatre in an effort to reduce the number of people on stage. The tech schedule was also greatly shortened to accommodate the quarantine of a few individuals due to some unexpected exposures within the School of Theatre & Dance.

The show was mixed live on a DiGiCo SD9T and recorded straight out of the console. The monitor system on stage relied on a d&b PA system for production members behind the camera and the cast in front of the camera. All signal processing was done by the A1 at FOH via Waves Soundgrid. The Soundgrid system allowed for all of the channel and bus processing to happen outside of the console and provided creative flexibility to use higher quality plugins than are available within the SD9 console. The paperwork below thoroughly describes the details of the system through drawings and spreadsheets.
